The nomenclature change from A4 to A5 stems from a recalibration of Audi’s naming conventions – the details of which we will spare you. Rest assured, however, that the all-new 2025 Audi A5 and its sportier S5 counterpart are highly worthy successors to the A4’s esteemed legacy. Our recent opportunity to drive these new cars on the serpentine roads of the Maritime Alps near the French Riviera provided ample confirmation.
With its dramatically redesigned profile, featuring a lowered roofline, reduced window sills, and an elongated wheelbase with short fender overhangs, the new A5 appears as if it has materialized directly from a designer’s sketchpad, retaining all its idealistic passion. Although Audi presents the A5 as a sedan, it is technically a hatchback. However, what truly matters is the significantly larger trunk opening, which enhances cargo space usability.
More critically, the new A5 is the first model to be built on Audi’s next-generation platform architecture. This architectural advancement has enabled the A5 to ascend into a more premium segment in terms of comfort, convenience, and performance.
Stepping inside the cabin, one is immediately struck by Audi’s new Human Centric interior design philosophy. Both the front and rear seats feel more spacious, and luxurious materials flow seamlessly across the doors and dashboard, creating a panoramic effect within the passenger cabin. A seemingly continuous OLED glass panel, which Audi refers to as its Digital Stage, is built upon the new E3 electronic architecture and features integrated ChatGPT.
In terms of driving dynamics, stiffer suspension components and more direct steering contribute to an incredibly precise feel that inspires driver confidence. Power is delivered by a 201-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine or, in the S5, a new turbocharged V6 mild-hybrid producing 362 horsepower, channeled through a quick-shifting dual-clutch gearbox and Audi’s renowned Quattro all-wheel-drive system.
An afternoon spent navigating the winding mountain roads above the Mediterranean coast was sufficient to confirm that the 2025 A5 is more than a worthy successor to the legendary A4.

The 2025 Aston Martin Vanquish is undeniably alluring. It is, without question, the most beautiful car of the year.
Marek Reichman, the English designer who has been shaping Aston Martin’s vehicles since joining the firm in 2005, seems incapable of creating anything less than beautiful machines. Yet, even by his exceptionally high standards, the all-new Vanquish is a truly breathtaking masterpiece.
“It’s looking for its prey. This is actually looking for one of those red cars,” Reichman quipped, offering a playful jab at Ferrari while providing a tour of his latest creation.
When viewed in person, it’s difficult to believe that the $514,800 Vanquish is crafted from solid metal. The deeply sculpted surfaces across the doors and over the rear haunches appear almost liquid, shimmering like mercury when the sunlight hits them.
The Vanquish possesses a timeless presence, thanks to its classical sports car proportions. Compared to the V8-engined Aston DB12, the V12-engined Vanquish is noticeably longer, contributing to its leaner, more exotic silhouette. A closer examination of the car’s profile reveals a glass-to-metal ratio of approximately 1/3 to 2/3 – the golden ratio – a principle meticulously applied throughout the design.
Creating such a beauty was a significant investment. Those longer, leaner proportions necessitated the development of an entirely new platform for this car, with a maximum production of only 1,000 examples annually. Aston’s engineers also completely revised and remade the 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 to produce an immense 824 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. It is an absolute brute of an engine, its titanium exhaust system emitting a sound that is both rich and fiercely angry. Our drive across Sardinia confirmed that the new Vanquish performs just as beautifully as it looks.

Foot to the floor, the M5 sedan pins you back into its deeply bolstered leather buckets, reeling in the horizon at an alarming rate: 200 km/h is merely a waypoint, then 250, 270, 289. The numbers on the head-up display blur as they tick past with astonishing speed. Just as we rocket past the 300 km/h mark, a delivery van emerges in our lane, forcing us to rely on the formidable carbon-ceramic brakes to slow down 2.4 tonnes of Bavarian engineering. They perform admirably, and we gracefully resume a relaxed 200 km/h cruise.
Predictably, enthusiasts expressed concern regarding the super-sedan’s substantial 2.4-tonne weight, which is undeniably significant. It’s as if the previous M5 had suddenly gained the weight of a mature horse. The hybrid battery and electric motor alone contribute approximately 250 kilograms. Given that weight is the natural adversary of all performance cars, fans were understandably apprehensive, and we shared some of those concerns.
However, this is M Division. When it comes to their core products, they simply do not miss: the M2, the M3 with a manual transmission, the M4 CSL, and the legendary old M5 CS are testaments to their engineering prowess.
To compensate for the M5’s considerable weight, engineers reinforced the chassis and incorporated rear-wheel steering. On the winding country roads near Munich, the M5 exhibits astonishing turn-in immediacy, which can be initially surprising. This agility, combined with 738 lb-ft of torque distributed to all four wheels, makes this car devastatingly rapid.
Is the new M5 as graceful as a prima ballerina? No. Is it optimized for track days? No. But is this arguably the greatest plug-in hybrid vehicle conceived to date? Quite possibly. It will dominate your daily commute, provide exhilarating weekend drives, accommodate your entire family and their luggage, and even offer 43 kilometers of all-electric range. The ultimate flourish? For the first time, the M5 is also available as a station wagon. Yes, it is even heavier, but don’t let that deter you; just drive it.
